Different Types of Platinum Thermocouples from XRF Scientific
Platinum excels in myriad different key performance areas for a diverse range of manufacturers. High-end wire producers exploit its inherent durability and flexibility to perform reliable voltage transduction in challenging working conditions. This makes it ideal for thermocouples with complex wiring configurations.
XRF Scientific’s Platinum Thermocouples
Predominantly applied to the precise measurement and monitoring of temperatures across an expansive spectrum of temperature levels, XRF Scientific’s platinum thermocouple-grade wires are the among most reliable on the market.
Through a perfect balance of in-house knowledge and expertise, plus a commitment to collaborative customization, the team at XRF Scientific has become a leader in the design and provision of high-specification platinum wires for a range of different thermocouple types.
Our tireless work on the technical improvement of our metallurgical services, working in-sync with esteemed partners in the field as well as valued end-users, has allowed us to make great strides in assisting manufacturers of platinum thermocouples with superior specifications.
Types of Platinum Thermocouples
Utilizing the services of trusted suppliers to deliver metals of the highest possible grade, XRF can confidently promise our customers platinum purities of up to 99.99%. Due to platinum’s excellent pliability, the relative ease with which it can be shaped and rolled down to widths of 0.01 inches makes it a popular choice for applications requiring platinum thermocouple wires of varying sizes and dimensions.
Basing all of our thermocouple wire creations on the widely accepted ITS90 and IPTS68 standards, XRF Scientific specialists have, through consistent engineering excellence, developed wiring solutions suitable for three main types of platinum thermocouples.
Type S Platinum Thermocouples
Ideal for applications that deal with temperatures of as much as 1600°C, Type S wire composites combine platinum and a Pt10Rh conductor. Without the need for any protective covering or casing, the resilient wire can be utilized bare without any assistance from generated airflow.
Type R Platinum Thermocouples
The incorporation of a conductor with slightly elevated capabilities – Pt13Rh – gives the Type R wire component a predictably higher thermoelectric output capacity. Other than that, it borrows many of its properties and specifications from the Type S product.
Type B Platinum Thermocouples
Type B thermocouple wire combines the properties and powers of a dual-conductor system, relying on both the Pt6Rh and Pt30Rh configurations to boost its thermal tolerance potential. At its absolute maximum, the Type B thermocouple can withstand temperatures reaching 1800 C. This comparatively stronger resilience to higher temperatures makes it an ideal solution for the treatment and production of glass-made materials.
